The Serenissima (the Most Serene Republic of Venice) was, for almost a thousand years, one of Europe’s great artistic centers. Buildings, paintings, and mosaics in the city and its mainland empire testify to the genius and the originality of the artists who worked and lived there. This series follows the history of Venice as it examines its art, architecture, and way of life from the eighth to the eighteenth century.
