What could be more romantic? The Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association
(GLAZA), a private, non-profit organization that supports the Los Angeles
Zoo and Botanical Gardens, presents two unusual Valentine's Day offerings,
one a fun, flirty event and the other a unique, romantic gift idea.

A "SEX AND THE CITY ZOO" afternoon on Sunday, February 14 from 2:30 to 5:30
p.m. celebrating animal mating, dating and cohabitating includes a
provocative "birds and bees" presentation, a chocolate and champagne
reception and a walking tour of the Zoo highlighting its most famous (and
infamous) animal couples.

GLAZA's original gift idea for Valentine's Day spotlights its "ADOPT" AN
ANIMAL program which provides the opportunity to become an "adoptive" parent
to one of the Zoo's treasured animals while helping to protect and preserve
endangered species. (ADOPT is an acronym for Animals Depend on People,
Too.) In celebration of the Number One ADOPTed species, GLAZA presents a
special Valentine's Day ADOPT package for $65 (tax deductible!), including
an adorable plush baby koala with its very own passport tag (while supplies
last), a Koala fact sheet and photo; an official personalized ADOPT
certificate, and an animal ADOPT car decal. Other species are available to
ADOPT for gifts in prices starting at $35.

MORE ABOUT "SEX AND THE CITY ZOO"

"SEX AND THE CITY ZOO" begins at 2:30 p.m. with walking tours followed by
the chocolate and champagne reception, after which Los Angeles Zoo former
curator Mike Dee leads the "birds and bees" presentation. Sparkling wines
for "Sex and the City Zoo" are generously provided by Ballatore. Proceeds
from this event support the Zoo's mission of wildlife preservation and
conservation. Tickets are $25 per person for GLAZA members, and $35 per
person for non members. (Adults only.) Seating is limited, and
reservations are required by February 10. Call 323 644-6042 or visit
http://www.lazoo.org/valentinesday/index.html for online reservations.

MORE ABOUT ADOPT An Animal

By choosing a favorite animal at the Zoo, gift recipients are designated a
guardian of that species at the Los Angeles Zoo for one year. Benefits for
all donation levels, ranging from $35 to $1,000, include a personalized
adoption certificate and animal fact sheet with a photo of the animal
"ambassador." One-of-a-kind benefits are available at other levels. Donors
of $500 or more are entitled to a special, private docent-guided walking
tour of the Zoo, and donors of $1,000 or more are invited to a private,
customized, docent-led cart tour to visit some of the Zoo's animal couples.
As a bonus, the gift-giver joins the growing family of wildlife defenders
who contribute to the Los Angeles Zoo's Endangered Species Fund and who
advance the cause of wildlife preservation and conservation at the Zoo and
around the world. What's more, the donation is tax-deductible. For more
information, call 323 644-6035 or visit http://www.lazoo.org/support/adopt/.

These programs are among the many offerings presented by the private,
non-profit Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association, founded in 1963. This year
marks more than four decades of GLAZA's success in supporting the Los
Angeles Zoo and Botanical Garden's work as an educational resource for the
citizens of Los Angeles, and as an international center for the conservation
of endangered wildlife. GLAZA provides funds and other services for Los
Angeles Zoo exhibits, conservation, capital projects, education programs,
community outreach, research, and more through fund-raising and an
endowment, membership, special events and more. GLAZA currently has 65,000
member households, the second largest membership base of a cultural
organization in Los Angeles. Many of its nearly 300,000 individual members
have sustained their GLAZA support for more than 20 years. The Los Angeles
Zoo is an international leader in the conservation of endangered species and
one of the city's major cultural and entertainment resources.
