Open Innovation: Using Electronic Brainstorming and Web Tools to Create Breakthrough Innovations

The Internet has become a powerful resource for any innovator, and there are a variety of online tools available to help with various stages of the innovation process. This program will highlight experiences with breakthrough innovations as illustrated through the innovation process with online tools. Phil McKinney from HP will draw upon decades of innovation experience which he also shares on his KillerInnovations.com blog. Anand Chhatpar from BrainReactions will share tools discovered while working with multinational clients on their innovation processes, which he shares in his Innovation E-magazine, BrainWaves http://brainwaves.brainreactions.com.

Philip McKinney is HP's Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for the Personal Systems Group (PSG). In this role, he oversees the long-range technical strategy and research and development for HP's laptops, desktops, converged mobile phones, workstations, digital home and consumer media devices. He has also been VP/CTO for HP's Network and Server Provider Business. Before joining HP, Phil was VP and founding CIO for Teligent, a global provider of fixed-wireless services. Prior to Teligent, McKinney was the senior executive responsible for the Communication Industry Consulting Practice at Computer Sciences Corporation (NYSE: CSC). McKinney currently serves on the Board of Directors for Signafor, Inc.

Anand Chhatpar is CEO of BrainReactions LLC, which utilizes creative college students to brainstorm new ideas for Fortune 1000 companies. In October 2005, BusinessWeek Online named him as one of the "Top 5 Entrepreneurs Under 25.3 He started a software business at 17, and founded a second start-up during college. Anand earned a BS in Computer Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, holds 6 issued utility patents and has 1 patent pending.
