Upintheair Theatre Society presents nine one-act plays ranging from absurd comedy to drama to physical mask performance, at the seventh annual Walking Fish Festival at Performance Works, 1218 Cartwright Street, Granville Island. The festival runs June 10 – 14, 2009. The productions include creative work from graduates from all the Lower Mainland’s major training programs, and Vancouver’s most exciting young professionals. The festival is an opportunity for audiences to witness ‘theatre evolution’ in action.

Over the last seven years, Walking Fish has emerged as one of the most important venues in Vancouver for young theatre professionals to develop their craft. Central to the Walking Fish ideal is the opportunity for young artists to pursue their craft without the added pressure of having to produce it themselves. Audiences have the opportunity to see up to 9 shows featuring the work of over 50 artists for the price of a single ticket. For further details check www.upintheairtheatre.com.

Artists in this year’s festival include playwrights Paulo Ribeiro (The Rattlesnake Run), David Mount (Faustmaschine), director John Bolton (Insider Trading), and Upintheair Theatre is proud to announce the first ever Walking Fish Mask Creation Piece (The People We Know), created and performed by The Critical Mask Theatre Collective lead by Laen Hershler.
