Professor James Anaya, United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights and fundamental freedoms of Indigenous people, will visit the University of Minnesota on December 10 to hear testimony from victims of 2005 Hmong grave desecrations in Thailand. This hearing is the culmination of years of hard work and advocacy on the part of the Human Rights Program, public officials, and the Hmong community to recognize the violations, reclaim the bodies and compensate the victims. This hearing with UN Special Rapporteur Anaya is an important opportunity to explain the case. Witnesses will include experts on Hmong culture and family members who have suffered from the violations. Light refreshments will be provided.
