unearthed -- punk pottery by Marc Grobman October 14, 2007

Jennifer Joyce Pottery Studio and Gallery presents unearthed a solo exhibition of art pottery by Marc Grobman.

Come to the opening Saturday, October 13 from 5 pm to 8 pm and pieces will be on view through Monday - Friday 12 - 5pm through October 20.

Grobman's work is abstract yet strikingly familiar. With references to nature, the pieces recall human, plant and animal forms, at once playful, dramatic, grotesque and sensual. Though not conceived as functional pottery, many of the works are vase forms that are glazed to be water-tight. The pieces are wheel-thrown and then enhanced with hand-building and sculpting.

I call it punk pottery, says Grobman of the thorny, pock-marked vessels, But that's just the sound bite. There's a lot more in there.
