Squeezed in like sardines with a stranger’s armpit in your face, it sometimes seems like there’s barely space to breathe on many Tube journeys, let alone perform any exquisite choreography. Yet that’s the environment Motionhouse Dance Theatre has recreated for ‘Underground’, an adrenaline- charged dance piece performed by four dancers inside a rocking and rotating tubular structure, where all the annoyances of other passengers falling to sleep on your shoulder and the claustrophobic paranoia of Tube travel post-7/7 are transformed into a journey of fluid beauty.
‘Underground’ is commissioned by Fierce Festival, Birmingham Hippodrome and Without Walls.
