Uncle Billy's Smokehouse CD Release Show at Kenny's Castaways in Greenwich Village New York City NY on Saturday night June 24th. Two LONG sets starting at Midnight going strong into the wee hours of the New York City night!
. First opened in 1965, Kenny's Castaways immediately became the venue of choice among up and coming acts. It all started when a little known band called the New York Dolls took the stage for their fist club gig outside the Mercer Arts Center. It was during one of these New York Dolls shows that Joey and DeeDee Ramone met. Soon after came acts such as Blondie, Kiss, Aerosmith, The Roaches and the poetic styling of Patti Smith. The Smithereens were the house band in 1980, and Phish played their first ever New York City show at Kenny's on 3/31/88. An unknown singer named Patty Smyth was performing when Columbia Records came in looking for a vocalist for the newly signed Scandal. And, perhaps one of the most memorable moments came when Bruce Springsteen took the stage for a one week run in 1973. This would be his first ever NYC show with the now famous E Street Band.
. Many things have changed in forty years, but one thing has remained constant: Kenny's Castaways is still showcasing some of the best talent around. Kenny's continuously maintains its eclectic policy of booking straight ahead rock and blues, great vocalists and stylists, alternative and R & B. With it's newly installed sound system and remodeled stage and V.I.P. balcony area, Kenny's Castaways is the place to showcase the finest musicians and acts around.
