UMOJA: No Men Allowed, the heartwarming story of courageous Kenyan women and Scarlet Road, a dramatic and passionate exploration into freedom of sexual expression are both screening at Riverside Theatres on Monday 3 September from 7pm as part of the Screen Café series.

UMOJA: No Men Allowed is the story of tribal Samburu women in Kenya who turn age-old patriarchy on its head when they set up a women’s only village. Matriarch Rebecca Lolosoli brings together the exiled women who were beaten up by their abusive husbands. When the women start their own business, their success incurs the wrath of the men resulting in an unlikely gender war. Winner, 2010 F4 Award AIDC, Official Selection, IDFA 2010, Finalist ATOM 2011 Awards.

Impassioned about freedom of sexual expression, Australian sex worker Rachel Wotton has become highly specialized in working with clients with disability. Rachel’s philosophy, that human touch and sexual intimacy can be some of the most therapeutic aspects to our existence, is making a dramatic impact on the lives of her clients. Scarlet Road follows Rachel as she strives to increase awareness and access to sexual expression for people with disability.

Screen Café is a series of monthly film screenings at Riverside Theatres which brings film enthusiasts and filmmakers together to watch, learn, discuss and network in a candid, interactive and inclusive atmosphere.
