About the speaker:
Dr Andrew Lang is a Lecturer in Law at the London School of Economics & Political Science, teaching Public International Law, with a specialty in International Economic Law. He is a co-founder, withColin Picker, of theSociety of International Economic Lawand sits on the Editorial Boards of theJournal of International Economic Lawand theLaw and Development Review. He is a member of the faculty of the World Trade Institute's Masters of International Law and Economics, and has taught on the IIEM Academy of International Trade Law in Macau. His current research is focussed on a number of themes around global economic governance, including the relationship between law and expert knowledge, sociological approaches to the study of the trade regime, questions around trade in serivces. He is also currently working on a British Academy funded project to write a social history of the trade and human rights debate. His 2007 article, 'Reflecting on Linkage' received the MLR Wedderburn Prize for the best article published in the 2007 volume of the MLR. Andrew has a combined BA/ LLB degree from the University of Sydney, receiving the University Medal in both degrees. His PhD is from the University of Cambridge, graduating in May 2005. From 2004-2006, he was the Gott Research Fellow in Law at Trinity Hall, at the University of Cambridge.

WTO Scholars' ForumThe Forum was set up in September 2006 by Dr Fiona Smith, University College London (UCL)s Faculty of Laws and Dr Federico Ortino, British Institute of International and Comparative Law. The Forums aims are to bring together leading experts on the law of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) for discussions on WTO law and practice. Discussions are both web-based and face-to-face via conferences and smaller seminars. Experts are drawn from legal practice (solicitors and barristers) and leading universities in London and its immediate surrounding area, although there are plans to expand to national coverage.
