'12 x 12: New Artists/New Work' is a series of monthly exhibitions featuring emerging Chicago artists. Using fragments of Islamic architecture, mosaics, and decoration, artist Armita Raafat aims to create the feeling of entering a symbolic representation of the iconic Sheikh Lotf Allah Mosque in Isfahan, Iran. Raafat draws upon her experience growing up in Iran during the Iran-Iraq War (1980-88) to create large wall installations that suggest the sensation of stepping into the war-torn remains of an imagined mosque.
