NORTHFIELD — River City Books will host a special event at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24 when U.S. soldier Jonathan Powers, who fought in the Iraq war, will appear to discuss and sign copies of “What Was Asked of Us: An Oral History of the Iraq War by the Soldiers Who Fought It.”

Powers is one of the soldiers featured in the book, which was written by Trish Wood. He also is founder of War Kids Relief, an effort to help the thousands of Iraqi orphans created by the war. To learn more about War Kids Relief, visit the organization’s Web site: http://www.veteransforamerica.org/ModuleID/244

Some have called “What Was Asked of Us” a modern-day successor to the Vietnam classic “Everything We Had.” In this book, award-winning investigative reporter Wood offers a gritty, authentic, and uncensored history of the war in Iraq, as told by the American soldiers who are fighting it.

River City Books, located at 306 Division Street in downtown Northfield, is discounting the book 15 percent through the event.
