Panel 1: Trade and Food Security: In the context of rising world food prices, this panel will examine food supply and demand issues and opportunities for greater cooperation between India and the U.S. in enhancing technological capabilities related to food production and encouraging policy environments to most effectively cope with food security challenges. Panel 2: Energy Security: Already the world’s fifth largest energy consumer, India is projected to rise to the third place by 2030, surpassing both Japan and Russia. Given tightening world energy markets, what are India’s options for fulfilling its energy demand to support a rapidly growing economy? How can Washington and New Delhi boost their bilateral energy dialogue to address common energy concerns in a way that facilitates economic growth and greater security and stability in South Asia?
