H.E. Rafet Akgunay, born in 1953 in Ankara, Turkey was educated at the Middle East Technical University where he studied Administrative Sciences. Amidst his professional career he went on to achieve his Master's degree in Law and Diplomacy at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. In addition, Mr. Akgunay achieved his Ph.D in Economic and Administrative Sciences. H.E. Rafet Akgunay served in Military Duty in 1977-1979. After this, Mr Akgunay joined the Foreign Service working within various Turkish Embassies, from Athens to Rome and Beijing. H.E. Rafet Akgunay has been at the Turkish Embassy in Ottawa since 2008. He is married and has two sons.
