Tuesday Night Movies: The Musical Madness of Busby Berkeley February 1, 2011

The early Warner Brothers films were gritty and tough, and Busby Berkeley's depression- era musicals were no exception. Insanely over-the-top, they featured hundreds of scantily clad girls popping out of giant fountains and twirling around as human kaleidoscopes. But these surreal musical numbers actually addressed serious issues of the day, including the forgotten war veteran, opium dens, marital infidelity, gunshot weddings, and lots of sex! Film editor and historian David Johnson will present a collection of these scenes with enlightening commentary. It's all talking…all singing…all dancing….all Busby!
