Three of award-winning, French director-screenwriter Bertrand Tavernier’s frequent collaborators will participate in a panel discussion March 21 about working with him as part of the University of Richmond’s 2013 Tucker-Boatwright Festival of Film.
The two-hour discussion, “Around Bertrand Tavernier,” will be held at Ukrop Auditorium in Queally Hall at 4 p.m. It is free and open to the public and will be conducted in English.
Tavernier has directed more than 50 feature films in his nearly 40-year career and won numerous awards, including five César Awards, four Berlin Film Festival awards, a Prix Louis Delluc, a Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award and a Best Director award at the Cannes Film Festival. His most notable movies include “The Judge and the Assassin,” “Round Midnight,” “Life and Nothing But,” “Safe Conduct,” “In the Electric Mist” and “The Princess of Montpensier.”
Panelists will be assistant director Jean Achache, cinematographer Pierre-William Glenn and film editor Ariane Boeglin. They will analyze clips from four of Tavernier’s films and discuss aspects of his filmmaking style, such as preparation and scouting, using flashbacks, the strong presence of cinema in his movies, and use of film editing to render impressions of violence, panic and improvisation.
The Tucker-Boatwright Festival of Film is a semester-long combination of screenings, lectures and classes.
