Tu B'Shevat is the Jewish celebration of the "New Year for the Trees." During this festive event, hosted by the Jewish Cultural Society at Matthaei Botanical Gardens in Ann Arbor, the community celebrates the abundant gifts of the natural world. Participants delight in the sights, sounds, tastes and traditions of Tu B'Shevat. The ethical lessons of Tu B'Shevat are those that relate to the ecology and our responsibilities to the earth. There are fun activities for kids and stimulating discussions and opportunities for adults to learn about Tu B'Shevat and the natural environment.

The JCS has invited numerous environmental non-profit organizations to attend the event and share with us the work and lessons related to their mission. A special speaker panel, featuring local leading experts on the issue, will present on the topic: "Protecting Our Great Lakes Waters: Do Asian Carp Really Make Good Gefilte Fish?". The Ecology Center invites you to bring in your children's toys for toxicity testing.

This event is open to all, and we welcome you to join in celebrating the earth with us for Tu B’Shevat!
