"[T.S. Monk is]…a first-rate drummer, unquenchably driven, and of the few who can keep the pulse swinging" (Variety)

Joining PCMS on Friday, February 13 as one of the most unique groups on the circuit, the T.S. Monk Sextet's cohesive and driving style has earned rave reviews since T.S. Monk formed the group in 1992. Monk, as drummer, bandleader, composer, and vocalist, was drawn to the drums before the age of ten, continuing on to tour with his father's (Thelonious Monk) trio until the elder Monk retired in 1975. With Grammy Award winning producer (for Joe Henderson's Lush Life, among others) Don Sickler on trumpet, the duo has carved an innovative and dynamic approach to crafting the T.S. Monk Sextet sound; this band soars and sizzles.

Critics and the public have lauded T.S. Monk as his father's true musical heir, and to honor the legacy left by Thelonious Monk, T.S. Monk formed the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz. The institute has helped to create a number of programs which sponsor music education for students in the form of full scholarships, funding, and supplies.

Read T.S. Monk's revealing interview with Frank Matzner. "I remember those times," says Monk of growing up with his father, Thelonious Monk. "This is wonderful stuff. It's storybook stuff. To watch it happen, to watch your father go from what some people could describe as ridicule and disgrace to almost classic adulation, and to be designated one of the most important musical figures in Western Culture, period":
