The Green Tree Gallery is delighted to announce the opening of ‘Truly Scrumptious’, a mouth watering exhibition exploring a contemporary look at the sweeter side of art and crafts!

Food has long been an inspiration for artists, from the early genres of still life and religious feasts to the obsessive consumerism of Andy Warhol’s Campbell’s soup cans. In current times it is the sweeter side of the palette that seems to attract artists the most. Including a variety of mediums, Truly Scrumptious brings together the work of five local artists and craftsmen, producing their own delicious artwork. Working within the same theme the artists have produced amazingly different results. From the fresh and candy-like 'sweetie jewellery' of Lucy Wallis to the almost edible ceramic cupcakes of Linda Calvert; from the contemporary colour saturated sugary prints of Heather Elizabeth Wilkinson to the unusual textile fantasies of Becks and Susan Jennings, and finally the simply iconic canvases of Sheila Marshall, this exhibition is an absolute feast for the eyes.

For the Icing on the Cake, the Green Tree Gallery is conveniently located just a stones throw from the wonderful Café Elvira, where you can taste some of the best cakes and pastries in Sussex. In conjunction with this exhibition Vera and her team will be producing a new selection of ‘Truly Scrumptious’ cakes, so visitors can enjoy a feast for the taste buds as well as the eyes!

Truly Scrumptious opens on Saturday 13th June and runs for a month. It is open Tuesday – Saturday, from 10am – 5pm
