Following success in 2011 and 2012, Riverside is excited to announce that submissions for the 2013 True West Theatre season are now open. Three outstanding projects drawn from a broad range of artists and theatre genres, will be supported by True West’s generous production, marketing and financial package for a two-week presentation each in Raffertys Theatre.

“We are looking for projects that are new and exciting, created by artists with voices and ideas that are daring and individual. Sydney’s greater west is the centre of the city’s population and this opens up a wealth of ideas for stories to bring to the stage. The fantastic success of RU4ME, Annie Byron’s hit show about online dating, which will be touring to three states this year, is proof that True West is a fantastic way of reaching a new audience and launching a production on the way to big things,” said Producer Camilla Rountree.

True West is a season of independent theatre coordinated and supported by Riverside, with assistance from Arts NSW. The True West program aims to give emerging and established artists as well as independent theatre companies access to professional theatre and rehearsal spaces and the chance to showcase their work in a professional environment to audiences in Sydney's west. These productions are chosen to give voice to Sydney's west and will be supported in their realisation through dramaturgical input or workshops and assisted to the stage by Riversides technical and marketing know-how.

Almost any story can be presented as part of True West Theatre as long as it has relevance to Sydney’s greater west. This can be demonstrated by the themes, characters, story line, location or concept through the core artists collaborating with western based artists. True West encourages all forms of performance, including but not limited to new Australian plays, drama and comedy, multimedia and hybrid theatre forms, devised performance, music theatre or physical theatre that is text based. Almost any story that can be told in Sydney can be told in True West.

Submissions close on Monday 22 April 2013, with the three successful program applicants, to be selected by a group of industry professionals announced in May 2013. More information and applications forms are available from the Riverside Theatres’ website at www.truewest.com.au
