Tropical Adventures Week December 27, 2009

It may be cold outdoors, but at Mystic Aquarium & Institute for Exploration, things are heating up during winter vacation week! Discover and celebrate the colorful fish, corals and reptiles that thrive in the sun during Tropical Adventures week, December 27 to January 2.

Between 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, kids will learn about the mysterious creatures of the Amazon during a scavenger hunt and discover the fish who reside in coral reefs with Fish Bingo. Once they locate enough fish in the Coral Reef exhibit to get a bingo, they’ll be awarded cards identifying them as official Reef Rangers.

In the Reptile Room, meet fascinating reptiles up close and get your photo taken with one. Additional activities include sand art, limbo contests, animal-related story readings and special presentations at exhibits featuring warm-weather creatures.

Launching that week is Guide by Cell, a unique technology that provides fun facts about the animals featured during the week. Signs at various exhibits will feature questions and prompt you to dial a number on your cell phone to hear the answers. Mystic Aquarium & Institute for Exploration is the only aquarium in the Northeast to feature this educational mobile technology.
