World Fairs were magnetic events in the 19th century, popular tourist destinations and a must for every traveler who could afford the trip. Entrepreneur Henry B. Plant visited many expositions during his lifetime, including the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago. The Columbian Exposition provided visitors opportunities to discover new technologies, and manufacturers unveiled the very latest products and inventions. Seventy-nine foreign countries participated and showcased their culture, inventions, artistic works and traditions. This exhibit will help visitors better understand how this single event influenced American culture and lifestyle and helped shape America's emergence as a world power in the 20th century.
