What are the creative and poetic possibilities of RSS syndication and how might the introduction of iterative publishing processes affect our experience of digital literature? How can a book be transformed and reworked through an exploration of the formal and aesthetic structure of the stream?

Tributaries & Text-Fed Streams is a project by J.R. Carpenter (Montreal) that re-purposes the original text of an issue of literary quarterly The Capilano Review (TCR) as a raw material for a new digital artwork. The work will be simultaneously launched at Turbulence.org.

The launch event will feature a reading by the artist in addition to a programme of experimental readings by practitioners in disparate fields such as quantum physics, geography, and poetics, arranged to explore ideas of streams, seriality, or flow.

Participants will also include Maria Lantin, Michael Boyce, and Jeremy Venditti.

A reception will follow.

J.R. CARPENTER is a writer and hypertext web artist based in Montréal. She created her first web art projects during the Telling Stories, Telling Tales thematic residency at The Banff Centre in 1995, and since that time has continued to explore the web’s potential for non-linearity, intertextuality and the integration of image and text. Carpenter’s projects have been recently shown at Oboro (Montreal) and MOCCA (Toronto), and have appeared in print in numerous publications, including Geist (Vancouver), Matrix (Montreal) and in the anthology Air Holes (Véhicule Press, 2008).
