Since co-founding the seminal improv rock outfit Phish in 1983, guitarist, composer, and songwriter Trey Anastasio has explored a wide variety of musical pathways ranging from atonal fugues and elaborate charts with Phish to adventurous free jazz on his first solo project, "Surrender to the Air" (1996), to collaborations with the likes of Tom Marshall, Les Claypool, Philip Glass, Stewart Copeland, and others.

The current Trey Anastasio Band is backed by the New Orleans rhythm section of Tony Hall (bass) and Raymond Weber (drums). Old friend Ray Paczkowski (keyboards) completes the core quartet with fellow Vermonters Jennifer Hartswick and Christina Durfee on backing vocals. Like much of Trey's work, his band's sound is hard to define in conventional terms but it's rooted in high-energy rock and roll. Trey's current band recalls the deep grooves and intricate, jazzy horn lines of the 10-piece meshed with the song-driven rock of the 70 Volt Parade. They interweave Trey's trademark compositions and arrangements with well-crafted songs that, when played live, showcase his strong command of improvisation and exploration. The result is simultaneously cerebral and danceable.
