Hartlepool and Middlesbrough
Middlesbrough, England

Take advantage of this fantastic opportunity to climb this iconic landmark and be 160 feet above the River Tees. The Transporter Bridge open day is on Saturday 13th September, from 10.00am - 4.00pm. The event is free of charge and there is no need to book, just turn up on the day.

Middlesbrough Transporter Bridge opened on 17th October 1911 and is the longest transporter bridge in the world, with a total length of 259 metres / 851 feet. It has a maximum height from high water of 69 metres / 225 feet, making it Middlesbrough's most visible landmark.

As well as climbing the bridge, you can also view the winding house and Visitor Centre and take a trip on the gondola. Charges are 60p each way for pedestrians and £1.20 each way for cars. All facilities at the Visitor Centre are accessible to wheelchair users.

This event forms part of Middlesbrough's Heritage Open Days 2008 where venues will open their doors to the public to help celebrate the town's architecture, history and culture.
