DETAILS: The Corrales Historical Society is sponsoring the 8th Annual traditional Las Posadas at the Old Church on Sunday, December 17th at 7 pm. Las Posadas is a re-enactment of Joseph and Mary entering Bethlehem on Christmas Eve with local children playing the parts. It is normally held nine evenings in a row before Christmas, the ninth being at church services at midnight on Christmas Eve. The Corrales’ Historical Society sponsors the traditional Las Posadas performance once each December to help keep this old special tradition alive.

Las Posadas in New Mexico dates back to the arrival of the Spanish in the 17th century. It was held in many churches throughout New Mexico and continues to be celebrated particularly in Northern New Mexico and as near as some churches in Albuquerque, Bernalillo and Jemez.

Two Corrales children, Xander Norman and Amelia Keleher, will portray Joseph and Mary while accompanied by music provided by Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in the North Valley.

Year after year this event draws many people from the area for a cultural Christmas experience. Refreshments will be served.

FURTHER INFORMATION: The program is free and open to the public. The Old Church is fully accessible to persons with disabilities.

DIRECTIONS: Take the Alameda exit (West) from I-25. From the intersection of Alameda Rd (NM 528) and Corrales Rd. (NM 448), go north for 3 miles to Old Church Rd, turn left (west) and proceed 0.3 miles to the Old Church.
