The International Convention Against Torture, adopted by the United States in 1994, compels the US to prosecute everyone who is responsible for torture, all the way up the chain of command to top government officials who authorize it. The Geneva Convention; the Uniform Code of Military Justice; and many Federal Laws all prohibit torture of human beings, yet few of those who authorized and justified torture have been prosecuted for such prisoner abuses in American custody.

Santa Barbara Townhall Meetup is proud to show the new documentary film "Torturing Democracy" during this Independence Day Weekend. "Torturing Democracy" is a 2009 winner of the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award.
