This gripping psychological thriller exposes dark Machiavellian roots as an emotionally fragile wife is slowly being driven insane by her husband. The electric tension in this, the UK original, overpowers the glossier 1944 MGM remake. Not to be missed.
Dragonwyck 1945 directed by Joseph Mankeivicz with Gene Tierney, Vincent Price, Walter Huston
In his directorial debut, Mankeiwicz paints a dandy gothic tale of a naive young woman who is swept up into the secret desires and undertows of her cousin's family. Richly textured with outstanding photography and a haunting score.
