Martha:

Thanks for letting me be the host of the Acoustic Jam on 4th Saturdays…I had a great time jammin’ with Ed (especially when I could play electric at an acoustic session…) I’ve never hosted before but I have a bunch of other gear I could bring (small keyboard, percussion stuff, a bass, etc. that I could set up in case people want to sit in…)

My background is primarily in blues-rock…I took lessons when I was 15 to learn some guitar chords but then I went off on my own to learn from other people that my brothers were hanging out with in High School…I never really knew any songs but I still wanted to jam so I just played along, finding the notes as I went and that’s how I got interested in playing lead accompaniment…and playing at blues jams in Boston in the 80’s really got me hooked, up there watching and learning from the local greats and being given a second chance every week to get it right…

Eventually I found that I could add my own statements to the music after all the frustration went away and I learned a few scales, but I always sort of hid behind my lack of knowledge of music theory by twisting everything into the familiar bluesy style that I thought was popular back in the day…but I did learn to rely on my ears and that helped when it became time to really sit down and try to write.

I’ll bring all my new songs…and call some friends…See you there…
