The third annual Tinderbox Music Festival showcases a powerful and diverse lineup of established and emerging female artists producing innovative original music. This year’s festival will take place at Webster Hall on Sunday, November 11, 2012 on 3 stages and will showcase close to 50 up-and-coming female fronted acts from around the world, including the popular “freak folk” sister act CocoRosie. Submissions for this festival close by end of day tomorrow, Tuesday, September 18, 2012.

Founded by Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter Alyson Greenfield in September 2010, the Tinderbox Music Festival features female singers and female-fronted acts from all over the world spanning the genres Americana, experimental, hip-hop, indie-folk, prog rock, post-punk, electro-pop, and soul.

In addition, Tinderbox Music Festival donates 100% of its net proceeds to non-profit organizations involved in empowering the next generation of female artists including Girls Write Now, an organization providing guidance and opportunities for NYC’s under-served high school girls to develop their independent voices and explore their careers, and the Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls, a non-profit music and mentoring program empowering girls and women through music education and activities that foster self-respect, leadership skills and collaboration. This year the festival also benefits the Tinderbox Songwriting Workshop which creates space for young women to write songs with female mentors who are established musicians in NYC-- many of whom are Tinderbox Music Festival performers.

“The goal has been to create a sustainable platform for emerging artists which also benefits local nonprofits empowering young women,” says Greenfield. “I really wanted this to be a full-circle event encompassing and affecting multiple communities.”
