Having met at a rebel training camp in Libya, the members of Tinariwen decided to trade in their guns for guitars to play songs of resistance. Their music calls for a political awakening of consciousness and approaches the problems of exile, repression in their home country of Mali, and claims of sovereignty and self-determination for the Touareg people.
