TIME FOR A CHANGE: NETWORKING WITH A RENEWED PURPOSE

A Public Professional Networking Event
Hosted by NBMBAA Association, J. L. Turner Legal Society and the National Association of Black Accountants

DALLAS, TEXAS/ The National Black MBA Association Dallas-Fort Worth Chapter (NBMBAA) - With the contraction of the country's economic and financial system, the elimination 598,000 jobs in month January, professionals need to be exponentially connected to their next opportunity. Thus, the DFW chapters of the National Black MBA Association, the J. L. Turner Legal Society and the National Association of Black Accountants will host “Time for a Change: Networking With a Renewed Purpose” at the Meadows Museum on the campus of Southern Methodist University on February 19 at 6:30 p.m.
This event will serve as an opportunity for individuals to connect with other minority professional organizations in the DFW area, enhance their network and to showcase the option of higher education opportunities in an effort to bring the attendees closer to that next opportunity.

“During these difficult economic times, networking and building a strong list of contacts is more important than ever,”stated Kathy Valentine, president of the National Black MBA Association- DFW Chapter. “Our three organizations have professional career titles that often cross paths. Entrepreneurs with an MBA often hire lawyers and accountants to set up their new businesses. Tax attorneys regularly work with tax accountants and/or become CPA's. Professionals with MBA's in Finance and Accounting are often interviewed for the same CFO positions at major corporations.”

In addition, to connecting professionals on the corporate level, this event includes the track of educational advancement. Recent months statistics show that some professionals have returned to the college classroom to enhance their talents and the administrators of the SMU Cox School of Business will be present to meet with attendees interested in the advantages of obtaining an advanced degree.

With wall-to-wall attendance in 2008 that consisted of professionals from each organizations, entrepreneurs, graduate students and administrators from the SMU Cox School of business, this event is expected to be a highly charged venue for networking.

“Representatives of the SMU Cox School of Business will showcase their great graduate programs and at the same time our organizations get to showcase their upcoming 2009 calendar of seminars and events,” explained Valentine. Entrepreneurs also benefit from this event by the opportunity to showcase their business services.

For Valentine, this event is successfully designed to creates a moment of change for each attendee. “Our desired goal is for members to learn about all of the educational options that SMU has to offer, for each organization to talk about their activities in the community and for each member to come away with 5 or more new contacts.”

Professionals have increased their client base, gained employment and successfully advertised their business services through the connections made at the professional and community programming offered by the National Black MBA Association.
