New Release is at it again. The weekly events listing for New York City throws another one of its crazy-ass, late-night dance parties at Asterisk. This may be the last one for a while. On the bill:

Kudu - Low-end, percussion-heavy electro led by dirty yet delicate female vocals. Their live show in the little room at Asterisk will make you wet yourself.

Criminal Justice - With each member of this group typically stuck in jazz rooms around town, it's not surprising that the band is full of chops. But they're more than just a group of talented musicians. Jason Lindner, Tony Escapa and Mitch Cohn lay down a groove so thick you could eat it; Dana Leong's trombone and Baba Israel's beatboxing and MCing are icing on the cake.

Cardenal - I've only heard snippets here and there, because this will be Cardenal's first show, but if the recordings are any indication, this will be a first show to see. Shoegaze guitar textures blend with Bonham-esque drums and melodic bass-lines. And their drummer sings. (Phil Collins, look out.)

In Flagranti - One of the aliases of Codek Records' Sasha Crnobmja, this one is definitely the dirtiest. I needn't say much more than check out the snippets from the new 12": www.codek.com/flagranti.html. Brilliant.

Tim Sweeney - It's not a strike of fate that Master Sweeney's getting all the kudos these days. His DJ sets are everything you could ask for: surprising, with moments of obscurity and familiarity, extremely danceable, and somehow intellectual (don't worry, there won't be a quiz or anything.) And he's got great hair.

Cocoa Cracker Brown ? He plays great fucking records. For instance: Lady Don't Tek No, Funky Kingston, Superman Lover, It's Dancing Time, and Me and Giuliani Down By The Schoolyard
