Display of Tibetan Costumes & Musical Instruments by the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA). TIPA was established in August 1959, and is one of the oldest cultural institutions in exile and is based in McLoed Ganj, Dharamsala. Its foremost objective include promotion of the study and performance of a wide repertoire of Tibetan opera, music, dance and theatrical traditions. Recently, it started a unique program to teach the Tibetan performing arts to non-Tibetans students as well. TIPA organizes the yearly Shoton Opera Festival which is a major attraction for visitors to Dharamsala, at the end of the Monlam Teachings by His Holiness the Dalai Lama in the month of March/April.
