Three Monologues - Play November 28, 2008

This is a collage of three monologues written by that luminary of Hindi prose, Nirmal Verma. He has written novels, short stories, travelogues and essays that have been widely translated and won many prizes. The three monologues: Dhoop ka ek Tukda, Dedh Inch Upar and Weekend are about solitude, and the individual’s capacity to live in peace and turmoil at the same time. Each character is attempting to come to terms with what has happened to him. Written in lucid language, each monologue, while being about different people, is united by the theme of solitude.
