Hilarious, high-energy vocal group coming to Bakersfield.

Michigan-based entertainers are one-part Smothers Brothers, One-part Statler Brothers and one-part Marx Brothers.

Three Men and a Tenor (3MT), voted Michigan's highest-rated touring group, will bring a high-energy, vocal music show to Bakersfield on Monday, October 30, 2006 at 7:30pm at the Rabobank Theater. The hilarious, a cappella vocal music presentation is being presented by the Bakersfield Community Concert Association, and season memberships are available by calling (661) 326-0838. The group has their very own National PBS-TV music concert special, airing in places like Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Miami, and Nashville, and nearly 70 other cities. They've also been an opening act for several nationally touring entertainers, like Lee Greenwood, Dionne Warwick, and The Beach Boys. This live concert consists of a cappella arrangements from popular musical artists like The Temptations, The Eagles, The Doobie Brothers, Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Bob Marley, Sugar Ray, Garth Brooks, and even Aretha Franklin, and several of the groups own original songs. We want to include all age groups in our shows, says Mark Stiles, one of the Men of the group. Most people just need some positive energy in their lives right now, and we feel that by giving them some great, upbeat music, we may help them feel better. When we take the stage, the Three Men are all 6'4", and our Tenor is 5' even. It is hard for an audience not to laugh, or smile right when we take the stage. Once we have them laughing, it is easy after that. We just try to help people forget about their worries for an hour or 2, and leave our shows feeling better than when they came. To us, that is what our job is all about.

One of the group's greatest experiences was in May 2004, when they embarked on a 12-day tour of eight U.S. military bases in Germany. The group performed 23 shows in eight days, drove 3,000 miles, and even visited Landstuhl Hospital, where they were able to sing for wounded soldiers, just off of the front lines of Iraq and Afghanistan. The group paid for their own flights, lodging and meals. General Motors provided the rental of two vehicles and the funds for the sound system needed for the tour. It was the perfect partnership to boost the morale of the families of our troops overseas. Due to overwhelming request, the group returned in May 2006 to do the tour again, but this time seven different bases were involved, and even the German citizens received a Three Men and a Tenor concert, when the group performed a public concert at the Castle Borbeck in Essen, Germany.

Three Men and a Tenor was formed by four members of the Men's Glee Club at Michigan State University in January of 1992. Over 13 years later, the original, founding members, are still in the group. For more information, visit the group's website at www.threemenandatenor.com
