Queens Nails Annex is pleased to announce its second, and final annual fundraiser This Is Not An Auction / This Is A Terrarium. Queens Nails Annex, in its four-year history, could ostensibly be described as a metaphorical terrarium for the arts in San Francisco. The ever-delicate microenvironment at 3191 Mission Street has been a self-sustaining ecosystem exhibiting some of the Bay Area's most challenging work in recent years; thriving as a result of the community's support, but always in need of philanthropic "watering".

This Is Not An Auction / This Is A Terrarium will present an array of organic gems, ranging from a survey of various terrariums, to artist created flower bouquets. In addition QNA is proud to have a variety of works donated for auction from some of the most celebrated artists working in the bay area over the past fifty years.

This Is Not An Auction / This Is A Terrarium will open Wednesday, April 28th at high noon, and will be open to preview works until Thursday, May 8th. All works will be available for purchase at a set price prior to bidding night. In addition, during the course of This Is Not An Auction / This Is A Terrarium Queens Nails Annex will be converted into a florist shop where the general public can stop in to make and select the hippest floral arrangements in San Francisco.

PLEASE NOTE: The official opening and closing of This Is Not An Auction / This Is A Terrarium will be on Friday, May 9th, from 7 - 11 p.m. At that time all works will be available for bid a raucous silent auction. Works will also be available online and over the phone. Cash, Checks, Credit Cards, and VIP payment plans will all be accepted. All proceeds will go towards continuing programming at QNA.

Programming for This Is Not An Auction / This Is A Terrarium will feature both a lecture and workshop series.

A terrarium workshop will be held by master terrarium farmer Rocchelle Durst on Saturday, May 3rd,from 12-2:30 p.m. The workshop will discuss the practical applications of creating both botanical and art-related microenvironments. Please note that the workshop is free to attend, but a $25 lab fee will be required for anyone wishing to make their own terrariums. Sign ups will be taken in advance by contacting the gallery.

Two lecture nights will be held on April 30th and May 7th both beginning at 6 p.m. Lectures topics will range from artist collectives in New York in the 1970s to Internet maintained biospheres. Lectures will ibe given by independent scholars and curators: Karen M Rapp, Zoe Taleporos, and Edward Vazquez. All lectures will be free to attend. RSVP is encouraged but not required.

Regular gallery hours will be 12-6 from April 28th - May 4th, May 7th and 8th. We will be closed May 5th and 6th.
