Vino Loco invites you to view the surrealistic paintings of Flagstaff artist, Priya Drews, now through June 30, 2011.

After rediscovering the joy of painting in 2009, Ms. Drews
has returned to one of her earliest influences,
the surrealist painter Rene Magritte. “When I was in high
school, friends and I attended Saturday classes at the
School of the Art Institute in Chicago,” says Priya.
“We probably spent more time in the galleries than we did in
our classes. When the exhibition of Magritte’s works came to the
Art Institute, I fell in love with his vision and the way
his mind worked. This collection is a tribute to him.”
The name of Drews’ current show “This is Not a Lemon,” refers
to Magritte’s’ iconic painting of a pipe (Ceci n’est pas une pipe.)

Priya says, “After painting on and off for many years, my life-long
desire to be an artist reawakened a couple of years ago. I started
painting “en plein air” which was a completely new experience for me. It has inspired a deeper level of appreciation for our rugged and
beautiful surroundings and served to hone my skills. Some of the
paintings in this collection feature the landscape as a major element. Others are based on whimsical situations that grow out of my strange inner vision.”
