"Their Stifled Strength: African Americans in Richmond" Walking Tour June 18, 2011

Scholars estimate that nearly 300,000 slaves made their way through the trails and trading complexes in Virginia’s capital. In the city of Richmond, about a third of the population was African American, both enslaved and free. Walk in the footsteps of the individuals bound by the chains of slavery and prejudice. Experience the city through the stories of African American leaders, rebels, dedicated craftsmen, and clever entrepreneurs. This tour begins at the Museum of the Confederacy. This semi-strenuous walk will last approx. 1 hour 30 min and will pass through areas of uneven pavement. Please plan accordingly. Reservations Suggested.
