Winner of five Tony Awards, Pete Townshend’s electrifying tale of a young boy’s journey from tragedy to triumph turns the first bona fide rock opera into an electric musical experience. This raucous sensation, full of larger than life characters and driving rock music played by a live band, has been called “the most electrifying evening of rock and roll ever to play in a theatre.” Blistering hot music like “Pinball Wizard,” “See Me, Feel Me,” “I’m Free,” along with a classic story of hope, turns one of rock’s timeless albums into an unforgettable musical experience.

A professional actor since the age of seventeen, Director Barry Bell has had a varied thirty-five years in the entertainment business. Ten years on the road in regional theatre, off and off-off Broadway, dinner theatre, outdoor drama and children’s theatre, took him from New York to Florida and as far west as Oklahoma and Idaho in plays ranging from The Odd Couple to The Misanthrope, from American Buffalo to Best little Whorehouse in Texas from The Tempest to Educating Rita. Barry followed the touring with eleven years as the artistic director of the Barn Theatre in Greensboro, NC, Directing over 117 shows. Since 1995, he has spent working in made for TV movies, TV series and feature films.

For the Theatre VCU mainstage Barry Bell directed a very successful production of Dracula in the fall of 2006 as well as HAIR in the spring of 2003, Picasso at the Lapin Agile in the fall of 2004, and Wait Until Dark in the fall of 2005. He also appeared in the 2008 mainstage production of Cabaret. For the last three summers Barry has produced and directed Student Voices which is seen by all incoming VCU first-year students and their parents during registration.
