Although tempers are flaring and bombs continue to fall in the Middle East, a group of diverse people think that the Arts can help foster peace and are working hard to spread their message.

The Yuval Ron Ensemble combines the sacred musical traditions of Judaism, Sufism (Islamic mystical tradition), and Christianity, imparting the ancient and deep inter-cultural connection between these traditions and the musical influences they share. The Ensemble is made up of musicians of Jewish, Islamic, and Christian backgrounds.

Join us for the Yuval Ron Ensemble in concert at Brandeis University on August 27, 2006. The concert will benefit the documentary Under the Olive Tree, produced by Progressive Pictures showcasing the efforts of the Yuval Ron Ensemble to propagate new directions in peace-building in the Middle East.

The concert will feature Armenian chants; songs of Sufi origin from Turkey; and Jewish prayers from Morocco, Yemen and Israel, performed by virtuosic musicians of multi-ethnic origins. The ensemble examines the roots of Middle Eastern music and then synthesizes them in beautiful melodies rich in new meaning.

NPR personality John Schaefer remarked after an Ensemble concert, "Sometimes the whole Middle East situation makes you want to throw up your hands in despair, but the sight of a Jewish rabbi clearly enjoying himself with a group of Arabic instrumentalists is a great reminder of the power music has."
