At the beginning of the 20th century a conflict erupted in Europe that rapidly escalated into a war of unprecedented destruction and bloodshed. About 65 million soldiers fought, and over 9 million of them died. The war involved 36 countries around the world, including the United States, which sent 2 million men and women overseas. Although the guns fell silent on November 11, 1918, peace did not officially come until the following year. The Museum is dedicated to sharing the stories of those who experienced this global disaster, the consequences of which are still with us.
