This lively performance brings warmth and new life to the winter season with traditional Storytelling, Harp and Song. Award-winning storyteller and recording artist Diane Edgecomb draws from Celtic, Nordic, Native American, Greek and British sources, illuminating the inner meaning behind holiday traditions. Pieces include Diane’s poignant version of the Scandinavian legend: Baldur and the Mistletoe as well as the Cockney tale The Apple Man, a humorous introduction to the English wassail tradition, followed by a glass of the real thing at intermission.
Diane Edgecomb’s performances, with long-time musical collaborators Margot Chamberlain and Tom Megan, are known for their skillful interweaving of music and story. The trio’s rendition of the haunting Solstice legend, The Halcyon Days of Peace, sets off this unusual tale with the lush sounds of early Greek music on harp, guitar, accordion, drum and voice. Throughout the performance, the audience is invited to join in and sing along with festive songs evocative of the Solstice and the season. Instrumental melodies on Celtic harp and synthesizer round out this lyrical evening of spoken word and song.
