TILL DEBT DO US PART
Comedy that delivers a bunch of pithy one liners in song

The wonderful and dynamic duo Drew Fairley and Kate Smith, creators of the hit shows Bangers and Mash and The No Chance in Hell Hotel return to Darlinghurst Theatre with their uproarious new comedy The Unspeakable Itch from Wednesday, 13 June to Sunday, 8 July 2012, with previews from Wednesday. 8 June.

Matt and Bec have been married for seven years and we all know what that means; he wants a raise, she wants her cushions fluffed. He keeps fingering his car keys. She spends hours staring into the backyard longing for a new deck. If only they hadn't started scratching the unspeakable itch…

So what if Matt occasionally sleeps in the car and Bec has trouble remembering his name? It's just a phase. Once they get their bank loan, a timber deck and a heated infinity pool all their little grievances will disappear. But if they don't get that loan they'll do what any other normal Australian couple would do - have a nervous breakdown and sing about it.

“The Unspeakable Itch is a riff on our observations about love, marriage and money in the 21st century. It’s a poke at our deluded reliance on buying 'stuff' expecting it to deliver happiness, when really the hole of need is never filled by creating more need…" said Co-Writer, Kate Smith.

“Since we started working together in 2003 Kate Smith and I are like some crazy married theatre couple. She knows my favourite dish and I know her shoe size. So we wanted to look at how relationships keep going after the confetti has turned to dust. What is a modern day happily ever after made of? The GFC suggests that we have been buying our way to happiness. Are we really looking for a soul connection with each other through our credit cards? There was a time when you just needed a twinkle in the eye to start a family now it seems you need a futures portfolio. There's gotta be some comedy in that- surely,” said Co-Writer Drew Fairley.
