West Virginia’s one and only, The Trainjumpers, create a sound that’s been described as “Appalachian soul music.” The four-piece band from Wheeling has just released its debut CD, “Deadtown.” The new recording presents the band’s exciting mix of roots music, harmonies and soulful backbeats. Cuts off the new recording are a staple of the band’s live shows, but it also adds its own flavor to traditional soul music. “We’re a real melting pot of American music,” said guitarist and songwriter Adrian Niles. “Our sound kind of draws on some of the best things in different styles of roots music, from bluegrass to reggae to the blues.” Members of The Trainjumpers have opened for a number of great artists including Buckwheat Zydeco, Bo Diddley Jr., the Allmann Brothers Band, Corey Harris, The Wailers, Vince Welnick, and Hackensaw Boys. The new recording captures a great vibe due in part to its live-in-the-studio quality. Trainjumpers music is steeped in the Mountain State – it’s rustic, ragged and runs deep.
