Author Henry Petroski, who has been called “the poet laureate of technology,” will give a lecture about the fascinating if little-known history of an everyday tool: the toothpick. A professor of civil engineering at Duke University, Petroski has written a number of popular works on engineering and design, including The Evolution of Useful Things.
