Riverside Theatres is proud to present in concert the outstanding 2012 winner of the renowned Sydney International Piano Competition on Wednesday, 8 August.

The Sydney International Piano Competition of Australia is internationally recognized as one of the world's greatest Piano Competitions. Inaugurated in 1977, the competition is held every four years and is presented in association with the University of Sydney and with the co-operation of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

During July, 36 of the world's finest young pianists will compete for the honour of the First Prize and a celebratory tour of Australia, plus many other cash prizes and valuable engagement offers for the major prize winners. The pianists, who will perform over 60 concerts throughout the competition, represent many major cities across the world including London, New York, Shanghai, Paris, Hamburg and Sydney.

Live international auditions will select the best of several hundred applicants and you will have the opportunity to select your favourite performer by joining in the voting for the Peoples’ Choice Prize winner on the final afternoon.
ABC Classic FM will be broadcasting the entire competition live. At the venues presenting will be Margaret Throsby, Damien Beaumont, Emma Ayres, Marian Arnold, Julian Day, Guy Noble and John Crawford, as well as special guest commentators.
You can hear all the 36 pianists in Stage I and Stage II recitals. Twenty will make it through to Stage III and twelve to the Stage IV recital/chamber music concerts. Six will then be chosen as finalists to compete in the final stage performing a Mozart concerto and a 19th or 20th century concerto both with the Sydney Symphony.
