Drawn Together: Drawing from life – with a twist… is the next event in our series of student-focused activities at the Barber. Following the success of our first session in October, we are now inviting students to an afternoon that will encourage everyone to get their artistic juices flowing.

The students’ point of view is really important to us and many have expressed they’d like to have a go at practical art workshops. In light of this, we’ve put together a programme we hope will inspire all students who want to get creative – not just those with an existing drawing ability.

The afternoon will comprise of three elements; draw, be drawn and draw on! Our education department will be on hand to give tips on drawing from life, alongside a live, cross-dressing interpretation of one of our most iconic paintings, Vigée-Lebrun’s Portrait of Countess Golovine! There will also be a caricaturist in the galleries, carrying out quick cartoon sketches of our visitors, inspired by our large collection of Kapp’s drawings of important historical figures. Plus, students can get hands-on by turning a life model into a living work of art, inspired by our beautiful Renoir portrait, Young Woman Seated.

The afternoon will be followed by Galleries Night on the Art Bus, held in collaboration with two of Birmingham’s other art galleries, Ikon and RBSA. A FREE bus will operate from 5 pm – 9 pm to take visitors between the three venues, where guests can enjoy a glass of wine and a mince pie, plus the chance to win prizes and pick up a few Christmas presents as you go along.

THE STUDENT SESSIONS is a series of students-only events at the Barber Institute, where young people can enjoy a free session of art, music and entertainment. Designed to give students the chance to have an input into upcoming events at the Barber, the sessions are an opportunity to give feedback and help us generate some exciting ideas for the future. Full listings of our upcoming events and exhibitions can be found in our September – December brochure. To download a copy visit www.barber.org.uk

This event is open to all higher education students, no matter where or what they are studying – so spread the word and please forward on to as many students as possible.
