Milwaukee Ballet’s The Sleeping Beauty unfolds in a magical kingdom complete with fairies, an evil witch and magic spells. The beautiful princess is cursed to one day prick her finger and succumb to eternal sleep, awaiting only the kiss of a handsome prince. The Sleeping Beauty blends beautiful divertissements with sumptuous costumes and dramatic scenery to captivate and delight both adult and family audiences. Tchaikovsky’s magnificent score is played by the Milwaukee Ballet Orchestra.

The Sleeping Beauty set a new standard for what is now called "Classical Ballet", and has remained one of the all time favorites in the whole of the ballet repertoire. The classic story was published by Charles Perrault in 1697. As a ballet, The Sleeping Beauty debuted in 1890 choreographed by Marius Petipa, cited as the most influential balletmaster and choreographer that has ever lived. When Tchaikovsky composed the score for this version of The Sleeping Beauty, he removed the violent second act from the original tale and climaxed the action with the Awakening Kiss. The Sleeping Beauty was Tchaikovsky's first major success in ballet composition.
