The Telfair presents a dramatic mock trial recreating the famous 1859 case of the Slave Ship "Wanderer." John Owens, a prominent criminal attorney in Savannah, was the defense attorney for the trial and son of George Welshman Owens, owner of the Owens - Thomas House. Members of the association will "stage" a 25 to 30 minute excerpt of the 1859 case using original court transcripts of the Wanderer trial. The mock trial will open with a narrator providing a brief overview to set the stage for the event. The narrator will also close out the presentation with additional information pertaining to what happened to the players in the Wanderer trial.
